Raw Chocolate Orange Tart

Raw-chocolate-orange-tart

Developing my Raw Chocolate Orange Tart was a bit of a challenge! The actual recipe is super simple (just like the majority of my recipes), but I set myself the challenge to develop this recipe for blender/food processor owners as well as Thermomix owners. In addition to that, I also developed a version using standard ingredients as well as using Wild Orange Essential Oil.

I guess you must be asking, why am I doing all of this? Well, a few weeks I ordered a Thermomix TM5, and last week, it was delivered to me by the amazing Bec Schwarze. So, from now on, I will sharing both standard and Thermomix versions of my recipes (where possible) on Becomingness. I will also be converting my older recipes over time. In fact, I have already converted my Red Lentil & Quinoa Soup and my Banana & Coconut Pancakes.

So, back to my amazing Raw Chocolate Orange Tart. This dessert is really decadent and it is hard to believe that is made using healthy ingredients. It is also gluten, dairy and refined sugar free. The below recipe caters for food processor and blender owners and I have included ingredients for the standard version and also the Wild Orange version. If you own a Thermomix, then make sure you check out the Thermomix recipe HERE.

Raw Chocolate Orange Tart

Makes 2 small tarts (approx 11cm diameter each)

Ingredients

Crust

  • 3/4 cup macadamias
  • 1/4 cup pitted dates
  • 1/8 cup cacao powder

Filling (if using oranges)

  • 1 cup macadamias
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup cacao powder
  • 1 large orange juiced (approx. ½ cup)
  • 1/4 teaspoon orange extract
  • 1 avocado

Filling (if using Wild Orange Essential Oil)

  • 1 cup macadamias
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup cacao powder
  • 1 avocado
  • 2-3 drops Wild Orange Essential Oil (food grade only)

Topping Options

  • Dark Chocolate, grated (I love Green & Black's Organic Dark Chocolate with 85% Cocoa or you can make your own)
  • Orange rind, grated

Method

Crust

Process the crust ingredients in a food processor or high speed blender until it resembles fine crumbs and sticks together when pressed. Halve mixture and place into 2 small tart pans (you may want to line them with cling wrap) and press down to form the base. Place in the freezer to set overnight or for a minimum of 4 hours.

Filling

Place ingredients in a blender or food processor and process until the mixture is nice and smooth. Pour on top of the bases and place in freezer to set for 2 hours. Then add your preferred topping and serve.

Note: I recommend storing in the refrigerator to maintain the consistency of the filling.
