My weight loss and health struggles. How I hope to inspire others.

It has been nearly two years since I started Becomingness and that two years has been the biggest rollercoaster ride.

I have learned so much about heath and wellness through my own weight loss and health struggles, that I decided that I needed to share my story in the hope that it will inspire others who may be battling their own health and wellness issues. I have learned that you have to keep on going, even if you think that you are not getting anywhere. I have also learned that it is ok to change your direction if you believe that it will help you make the changes you want.

Here is my story of the past few years....

I thought I had it all figured out when I lost 30 kgs back in 2013. I was predominately following a clean eating lifestyle, plus I was exercising 5-6 times per week, doing a combination of running, walking and resistance training.

I was fitting size 10-12 and was stoked.  I remember giving away all my size 14-18 clothing and loving it. It was the best that I had looked in over 10 years.

At the time I thought that by losing weight, I would be healthy and happy.

But something was not right. I still felt unhappy and was not coping with the demands of being a mother (to two toddlers), wife, student and trying to create a new career for myself. I felt tired, stressed and run down.

As my study load and Becomingness work load increased, my health suffered.

So of instead of exercising, I was either creating recipes, sitting at my desk studying, blogging or travelling to Sydney to complete my clinic hours. Doing this while raising two toddlers was really tough and by 5pm (when my husband got home from work), I would have a couple of glasses of wine to cope with the stress and to help me relax.

My sleeping patterns got all out of whack, from going to bed too late and then not getting enough hours sleep as my children were often waking up during the night. In the morning, I would wake up so tired, have a couple of coffees and start my day. My body was not coping.

I started getting acne again, my tummy was bloated and I just didn't feel right. I remember getting tests done by the doctor to check hormones and my bloods and was told that I was healthier than ever. Then, why did I feel so shitty! As well as all of that, my anxiety started to get pretty bad.

I had taken all eyes off myself and was solely focussed on my children and helping other people through Becomingness.

During 2014, I created over 100 recipes for my website as well as creating close to 50 new recipes for my desserts eCookbook BecomingSweet, which was released in December 2014. I was so proud of what I had achieved, but I had really struggled to get it all done. I also gained 15 kgs of the weight that I had initially lost.

The first half of 2015 was very much like most of 2014 and I gained even more weight. I started to increase my exercise, but every time I started to get back into it, I got either a cold or flu, so I would stop exercising and then took ages to get back into it again. It was also affecting my family, we had lost our balance. My kids were always getting sick and were not sleeping well, which was affecting my hubby and I. We were both not happy.

By the middle of the year, I had gained 20 kgs of the original 30 kgs that I had lost. I was always feeling tired, bloated and anxious. I was really confused as I was still eating whole foods and was not sure what I needed to do to get back on track.

In August, I attended the annual Pro Blogger event at the Gold Coast. At the event, I felt really uncomfortable, ashamed and felt a bit like a fraud. How could I be a health & wellness blogger, when I was unhappy, overweight and always stressing out? One of really memorable moments was hearing event organise and problogger guru Darren Rowse's opening speeches. Darren spoke about the importance of looking after yourself and how many bloggers neglect their health. It was a light bulb went off in my head

After Problogger, things started to slowly get better. I started to make some changes and things started to improve.

One of the big things is that we moved back to Brisbane (obviously not an option for everyone) and I was excited to be close to my friends again, as well finally meeting some in person that I had gotten to know through the blogging world.

Also, we found an amazing property that has an amazing kitchen, my own office and such vibrant energy. I believed that our old house had a lot of negative energy which played a part in our family not being happy and healthy.

One of the amazing Brisbane health and wellness bloggers that I had gotten to know though blogging, Pia Scade (aka Wellness with Pia) made me aware of a nutritional cleansing program that would help me lose weight, gain energy clear my skin and reduce my bloating.

It sounded amazing! But, I was a bit skeptical as I had only ate wholefood as was not sure of meal replacements. My husband was even more skeptical. He’s a scientist through and through. So, I didn't sign up straight away and decided to learn as much about the program that I could.

In the meantime, I spent less time on Becomingness and more quality time with my family and friends. I even went on an amazing cruising holiday (which you can read about here).

I completed my wellness coaching certificate and I started to exercise a bit more. The weight still did not shift, but I was starting to see that there was a bigger picture to my health and wellness. It wasn't only about exercising and eating healthily. It also encompassed the mind, relationships, rest and personal growth.

In November, after doing lots of research and checking out other people's progress I decide to sign up and start the nutritional cleansing program.

In the first few days alone, my energy levels increased dramatically and my bloating reduced. At the half way mark, I had lost 3 kgs, 38cm and felt amazing. My skin had cleared up also, which was a big plus for me.

I ended up losing 5kgs from the program and it has been over a week since I have completed it and I have lost even more weight.

I also launched my Nutrition and Wellness Coaching services, where I offer a range of different packages to help empower busy women (especially busy mums) with the knowledge and tools to live happy and healthy lives.

I am really passionate about helping other busy women who are struggling with their health and wellness goals, whether they are wanting to manage their weight, gain more energy, reduce bloating or clear their skin.

For me it is crazy to think that what helped me lose the weight to begin with was not enough for me this time. My body needed to be reset and I believe that combining real food with a nutritional cleansing program was the key to healing my body and getting back on track. It’s been a kick start, a reset and it’s working. As a result, I have now added a service offering which includes the 30 day nutritional cleansing program that I just recently completed. One of the big bonuses of my new offering is that you get unlimited support from me.

So the last few months has been awesome for me as I have started to regain my health and happiness.

I am looking forward to even more amazing results when I take part in the 30 day group cleaning program starting in January.Being a part of an amazing group of people who are all helping others transform their lives is such an awesome feeling. Being healthy and happy is where it is at! Sometimes, it takes us a little longer to get there, but it is all part of the journey of self-discovery and learning.

As the saying goes "Never give up! stay focused, stay positive, stay strong". Keep trying and if you have to make some changes, then do it. You will always get there if you don't give up.

I would love to hear from you in the comments below on how you have overcome health and wellness issues. What has worked for you? Did you make any changes?
